Student Leadership Opportunities

Browne Academy offers many leadership opportunities, particularly as the students progress through middle school. Walk into one of our classrooms, and you will see students taking leadership roles, as the children collaborate on group projects. Teachers foster building leadership skills across the curriculum, realizing each student’s different strengths and encouraging their development.

 

Outside the classroom, officers and members of the Student Council Association, elected by their peers, spearhead community service projects and community-building events. Students may also apply to our Ambassador program, which gives them the opportunity to represent the school at open houses and other admission events. The ambassadors also serve as a resource for prospective families as they seek out the student perspective on the school. Beginning in 4^th grade, students serve as older buddies to our younger students. They meet regularly for buddy activities and participate together in community events, such as the pancake breakfast and service projects.

 

Browne Academy’s inclusive athletics program allows students to join our teams, regardless of their experience in a particular sport. This enables students with no experience in a sport to try something new, thereby gaining skills and confidence on the field or court. On the flip side, students who have previously played a particular sport have a leadership chance, acting as mentors to the less experienced players.

Students also create their own leadership opportunities. For instance, middle school students have proposed and organized collections for hurricane relief and Children’s National Medical Center.
