Browne Students Win Awards in C-SPAN StudentCam Competition

Browne Academy 8th graders Dava Arkoh and David Glover-Barr recently won Honorable Mention awards in the national C-SPAN StudentCam competition! Dava’s documentary on police brutality and David’s on climate change were two of only 16 middle school submissions selected for Honorable Mention.

All of Alissa Kharkar’s 8th grade history students created original documentaries for the competition, answering the question, “Explore the issue you most want the president and new Congress to address in 2021?” It has been a long journey since September when each student chose a topic of interest. Topics included immigration policies, drug addiction, homelessness, police brutality, LBGTQ rights, climate change, and more. Each student researched, reached out to topic experts, conducted interviews, and used this collection of data to create unique documentaries. Every child submitted their work to C-SPAN for award consideration. There were over 1200 documentary submissions from middle and high schools across the country. Congratulations to Dava and David, and a hearty "job well done" to the entire 8th-grade class!
