Why Give to Browne?

Everything you love about Browne is supported by our community’s generosity. As an independent school, Browne Academy does not receive government funding, which means that tuition and charitable gifts are the primary sources of financial support. Our community’s tradition of giving is vibrant and fundamental to our ongoing success.

Through philanthropic giving, our community of parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni, and friends takes an active role in fostering Browne’s mission and ensuring the best possible education for our students.

Student Stories

01/05

One day during science class, we were learning about the human body and the heart. I remember just like it was yesterday when she showed us a video of the human heart beating inside of someone. Everyone else said ew!!, but I said wow. I will never forget how cool I thought that was and from that day, I knew I wanted to be a heart surgeon. I am so grateful for the ways in which my Browne teachers have inspired me, making me a confident well-rounded leader with a strong desire to make a positive contribution to this world.

Some of the major things I learned at Browne are its core values: Excellence, Diversity, Character, and Community. What Excellence means to me is not to be perfect but to try to be the best version of myself. Diversity means to try including everyone and try to learn people’s backgrounds. Character for me is to be nice and kind to everyone and really just be yourself and be true to yourself. Lastly, Community. Community to me means involving everyone and doing everything you can to make connections -- not just at Browne, but everywhere you go.

Browne Academy is a very diverse and multicultural setting, which was incredibly important to my family since my mother is black and my father is white. Being immersed in diversity helped me find confidence within my own biracial identity, and helped me develop an open mind. Throughout my time at Browne I grew to understand that no one can make me insecure about something I am secure about…who I am.

Browne Academy was hyper focused on creating an accepting environment, resulting in judgment from others being inconsequential to me. This directly contributed to me being confident, open minded, and outgoing, three aspects of my personality born at Browne, grown at Loomis, and ready to explode at college."

At Browne, I have found my best self. I constantly push myself to reach as high as I can towards my goals. I’m not the same girl who once thought “just okay” was enough. Now going back to where I started this speech, Browne has taught me to always raise my hand as high as I can, to always use 100% effort towards everything. I've learned that hard work can carry me as far as I let it. I will admit at times it's hard to give my 100%, so thank you to my classmates, friends, teachers, grandparents, and a very special brother, Jack, for always supporting me when I wasn't raising my hand as high as I could.

I started Browne as a quiet and reserved kid, and while most of my growth to the outspoken person I am today came with simply getting older and maturing, I know I wouldn’t be the person I am today without this school. If I had to choose my favorite thing about Browne, it would undoubtedly be the culminating projects built into the ⅞ curriculum, such as We The People, Capstone, and National History Day. These projects taught us how to effectively speak with judges, experts, and people we aren’t familiar with- an essential skill to learn prior to entering high school.

Our Supporters

Ways to Support Our Students

Your philanthropic giving provides vital support that allows Browne to go above and beyond for our students. Our top giving priorities, the Annual Fund, Endowment, and Bruin Benefit, each provide unique resources in support of our students and teachers.

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is Browne Academy’s first giving priority and the school’s most critical fundraising effort. Providing unrestricted funds to the operating budget, it allows the school to deliver on its mission and enhance our students’ educational experience. Each year the Annual Fund provides additional teacher professional development, curricular enhancements, field trips and speakers, campus improvements, need-based tuition assistance, and the flexibility to meet unforeseen needs.

Endowment

Endowments in independent schools play an important role in their financial stability and sustainability. In the short term, endowments provide critical budget support for current students, while simultaneously serving as a vehicle for long-term growth to ensure schools are well equipped to address future needs and priorities.
Thanks to the leadership and generosity of Peter Aliferis, first chair of the Browne Academy Board of Trustees, an endowment for Browne was established in 2018. As we grow the endowment, the investment revenue it generates will ensure Browne is here to provide our students an outstanding foundation for the next 80 years and beyond.

Bruin Benefit

The Bruin Benefit is the school’s largest community event in support of our students and teachers. Each spring the adults of the Browne family gather for a fun evening to support a specific project that will enhance the educational experience of our students. Most recently the Benefit provided funds to upgrade smart boards in classrooms across campus and rebuild two of our playgrounds.

What makes Browne so special is the community–the staff, faculty, students, and families. From the welcoming good morning in carline to the AMAZING teachers who have encouraged and supported me all along the way. Browne has helped me improve not just academically, but in so many other ways. It helped me build confidence, take risks, and believe in myself.

Yes, Browne Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible.

The earlier we receive your gift or pledge, the sooner we can put it to work for all of our students. We encourage all families to make their Annual Fund pledges by Thanksgiving, though payments are accepted until the end of our fiscal year, August 31. Making a pledge early in the school year allows Browne to fund enhancements sooner rather than later, therefore maximizing their impact on the students.

We hope you will make Browne Academy one of your top philanthropic priorities, as your gift will make an immediate and significant impact on the experience of our students. Annual Fund gifts range from $10 to over $10,000. We encourage families to consider making a leadership gift at the Greystone Society level with a commitment of $1,000 or more. By giving at the Greystone level, families ensure that we raise the necessary additional funds, above and beyond what tuition covers, to support our programs, faculty, and students. All gifts, at any level, positively impact our students. Thank you for making a difference!
