How to Apply for Admission to Browne Academy

Applications for the 2008-2009 school year are accepted from September 2007 through January 2008. The deadline for submitting all application materials is February 1, 2008. Complete Browne Academy’s online application today!

For the upcoming 2007-2008 school year, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis for grades in which there are openings. Please contact the Office of Admission to inquire about availability.

2. Visit Our Campus:

All families interested in applying to Browne Academy are encouraged to visit our campus to experience the school firsthand. We host Open Houses in the summer, fall and winter for prospective families interested in admission to Browne for the next school year. Parents can also schedule a visit/tour of the campus by contacting the Office of Admission directly.

Open Houses typically include presentations by faculty and staff, including our Head of School and Director of Admission, and tours of our campus. You will have an opportunity to speak with teachers, current parents and student ambassadors. Tours of the school are held during a regular school day. Each tour gives a small group of visitors the unique opportunity to observe students and teachers in our classrooms.

3. Schedule a Student Visit:

Once the Office of Admission has received your completed application, we will schedule a date for your child to visit Browne Academy. Applicants to our preschool three-year-old, four-year-old and Kindergarten programs are invited to attend a short play date session scheduled on Saturday, February 9, 2008 for preschool candidates and Saturday, February 23, 2008 for kindergarten candidates. Student applicants for 1st through 8th Grades are invited to spend a day visiting Browne Academy in their current grade.

4. Submit Teacher Recommendations and School Transcripts:

Teacher recommendation forms are required for all students who are currently enrolled in school or daycare. Recommendations must be sent directly from the teacher to Browne Academy. Transcripts are also required for students applying to Grades 1st through 8th. Recommendation and Transcript Request forms are available online (click here) or by contacting the Office of Admission.

5. Educational Testing:

Applicants to each grade level (with the exception of applicants to the preschool three-year-old program) are required to submit pre-admission testing results as part of the application process. Applicants should schedule an appointment with an independent, licensed psychologist to have the appropriate admission test administered. A list of some of the many testing centers in the area can be accessed directly online (click here) or by contacting the Office of Admission.

Applicants to the three-year-old preschool class are not required to submit formal testing. Parents should complete a developmental questionnaire called “Facts About My Child” which is accessible online.
Applicants to the four-year-old preschool class should take the WPPSI-III.
Kindergarten applicants should take the WPPSI-III.
Applicants to Grades 1-5 should take the WISC-IV.
Applicants to Grades 6-8 should submit results of either the WISC-IV, SSAT or ISEE.

6. Admission Decisions:

The Admission Committee’s number one priority is to place a student in an academic and social environment where he or she can thrive and experience success. Admission decisions are based on many factors, including the student’s teacher recommendation, school records, test results, classroom visit and the availability of space in the grade to which the student is applying.

Admission decisions are mailed in early March. Upon acceptance to Browne Academy, the family must return the signed Enrollment Contract along with a non-refundable deposit within two weeks.

    Reason #15: Thinking Progressively

Browne Academy has roots in progressive educational thought, and through the years, the curriculum has evolved to match the needs of our growing student population. Mrs. Marion Browne, found of Browne Academy, once said that her goal was "to provide a safe, caring environment in which children could learn based on their particular strengths and abilities." Over 66 years later, Browne Academy is still dedicated to that very same idea.
