Preschool Blue and Yellow

Language Arts

Language Arts in the three-year-old program invites students into the experience of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Big Books provide a shared reading experience, and story stretcher activities extend that reading experience into all areas of the curriculum. Additionally, concepts such as using prepositions correctly, using the plural form of words, understanding opposites and verbally expressing feelings are explored.

Mathematics

Mathematics in the three-year-old program focuses on exposure to a wide variety of concepts, including number recognition, counting, ordinal positions of numbers, shape recognition, color recognition, difference in size/volume such as more and less, sequencing and sorting.

Science

The Preschool Blue and Yellow science curriculum provides daily, hands-on experiences. Through the use of models, collections, observations and class experiments, the students develop a method of problem solving and critical thinking. Additionally, the students also learn to care for class pets in the Science center. Science themes are introduced and reinforced throughout the school year. Understanding the concept of change is a central component of the science curriculum, and students also learn about the five senses.

Social Studies

The Social Studies program includes learning about community helpers, different modes of transportation and our own families as we discover the importance of everyone within our society. We also focus on how every individual in our world is a unique person. During the People Unit, students focus on the culture of themselves and their own families, and about how important the family structure is. Students also learn about how there are differences and similarities amongst all members of our society, and about how this diversity should be cherished and celebrated.
